Vinyasa Yoga

Vinyasa is often called flow yoga. Like a moving meditation, this style of yoga is performed by linking together several postures and movements in relation to the breath.

What is Vinyasa Yoga?

Vinyasa is a Style of Yoga in which breathing exercises are used to synchronize fluid transitions commonly referred to as “Flow”. This flow off movement is excellent for getting your heart rate going and working up a sweat. Vinyasa can also help increase flexibility, strength, stability, calmness, and focus.

The synchronizing of physical movement with your breath allows you to create a deeper absorption of awareness through a rhythmic moving “meditation” while practicing Yoga.

To better understand the Sanskrit word Vinyasa, we need to break it down into two parts. The prefix VI can be translated as “in a special way”. The suffix NYASA can be translate as “to place” or within prescribed parameters. Thus Vinyasa can be traslated as “Arranging something in a special way within specific structures”.

Vinyasa Yoga - Dulce Graf

Using Vinyasa with pranayama

Vinyasa movements are best supported by The ocean sounding breath or “UJJAYI” Pranayama (breath), this breathing technique slows the breath rate down, increases mental focus, and helps to warm and energise the body. During a Vinyasa class, it is very important to pay attention to the quality of your breathing. When you feel your breath becomes short, rough, or constrained, it is a signal to slow down and take a break.

Flow of Life

When you feel out of the flow of life, Vinyasa yoga can help you break out and get a new vigor.

Mind

You want the inner peace that comes from knowing that your life is not out of your control.

Self-Compassion

You are looking for a practice that can help you heal mentally, emotionally, and physically, and to develop self-compassion.
